SQUEAKY BEAN ROAST CHICKEN SLICES // NEW PRODUCT

Thank you to Eden Green PR for the following content

Plant-based Roast Chicken Flavour Sandwich Slices come to Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.
Squeaky Bean®’s latest launch revolutionises meat-free sandwiches

Sainsbury’s and Waitrose are expanding their plant-based range with the introduction of Squeaky Bean’s vegan Roast Chicken Flavour Sandwich Slices. The new product will launch into 221 Sainsbury’s stores on 21 September, as well as 155 Waitrose stores on 30 September.

Perfect for eating straight from the pack or making a flavourful sandwich filling or salad accompaniment, Squeaky Bean’s Roast Chicken Flavour Slices are a deliciously savoury addition to any plant-based lunch.
The new product was developed as a result of strong demand for Squeaky Bean’s existing range of Pastrami and Ham Style Slices. The realistic and succulent texture is sure to cause a flutter among consumers who are simply looking to reduce their meat intake, as well as those who are committed to a vegan diet.
Made from wildly delicious plants, including wheat, tofu and herbs, the Roast Chicken Style Slices are high in protein.

Packaged with sustainability in mind, the Slices are encased in a recyclable paper container with a peelable film lid. Each pack bears the recognisable bright Squeaky Bean branding, ensuring the Slices stand out on shelves.
In a recent survey from the British Sandwich Association, chicken topped the list of the nation’s favourite sandwich fillings. In combination with other ingredients, such as stuffing, it also featured a further two times in the list of the top nine sandwiches.

These favourite fillings contribute to more than 43,000 tonnes of chicken being consumed every year in the sandwich market alone. However, with the launch of Squeaky Bean’s Roast Chicken Style Slices, vegetarians and plant-based diners no longer need to miss out on these much-loved sandwich combinations, while flexitarians looking to reduce their meat intake – whether for health, environment or animal welfare concerns – can opt for a realistic alternative to chicken products.
Consumers can shake up their sandwiches in a variety of ways, including by trying the club sandwich recipe featured below.

Sarah Augustine, Squeaky Bean co-creator, says: “Squeaky Bean is your sidekick in the kitchen, with these wonderfully versatile and flavourful Roast Chicken Flavour Slices that are sure to challenge negative perceptions of vegan food. Adding a deliciously moreish filling to sandwiches has never been easier – that’s if you can resist eating the Slices straight from the pack!”

Squeaky Bean’s delicious range of simple-to-prepare products are helping to expand the vegan food market, which is experiencing a year-on-year value growth of 22% for meat-free ready to eat lines [Kantar WPO 52 w/e April 2020].

Each pack of Squeaky Bean plant-based Roast Chicken Slices weighs 90g and has a recommended retail price of £2.50.

SQUEAKY BEAN ROAST CHICKEN CLUB // RECIPE

Thank you to Eden Green PR for the following content

Recipe for Vegan Roast ‘Chicken’ Club Sandwich

Makes 1 large sandwich (serves 1-2)

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack of Squeaky Bean Roast Chicken Flavour Slices
  • 1-2 slices of Squeaky Bean Ham Style Slices
  • 1⁄4 avocado, sliced
  • 1 slice of vegan cheese
  • A few leaves of lettuce or rocket salad
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • A spoonful of tomato ketchup
  • A little oil for frying
  • 2 large slices of wholemeal bread

For the vegan ‘honey’ mustard sauce:

  • 2 tbsp vegan mayo
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup or agave syrup
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1⁄4 tsp black pepper

Method:

  1. Start by slicing your red onion and placing it into a non-stick pan over medium heat alongside a little oil. Cook for a few minutes, stirring regularly until the onion softens.
  2. In the meantime, mix up your ‘honey’ mustard sauce in a small bowl. Whisk until smooth.
  3. Once softened, remove the onion from the pan and set aside. Place 1-2 pieces of Squeaky Bean Ham Flavour Slices into the pan and allow it to cook for 1 minute, flipping halfway through.
  4. Assemble your ‘chicken’ club sandwich! Start with a layer of sauce, add on the avocado and top with the vegan cheese slice. To get your cheese extra melty, place it under the grill in your oven for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Place the sliced tomato onto the cheese, add a little more of the sauce, then top with a generous serving of the Squeaky Bean Roast Chicken Flavour Slices. Spread tomato ketchup onto the top slice, add the cooked ham slice, the red onion & finish off with the lettuce leaves. Spread the remainder of the ‘honey’ mustard sauce onto the second slice before placing it on top.
  6. Slice the sandwich in half and enjoy!

Thank you to Nudie Snacks for the following content

Groundbreaking brand Nudie Snacks has harnessed the plant power in wonky veg and is the first to market a new product made from fresh produce that would usually have been discarded.

The Caulifower Crisps are made from 40% fresh cauliflower grown in Scotland and come in two different flavours – cheese and caramelised onion and katsu curry. They offer bold and innovative flavours with a broad appeal to all ages and tastes.

With no artificial flavourings or colourings, the Cauliflower Crisps are low in sugar, high in fibre and 40% lower in saturated fat than traditional potato crisps, making a healthier snacking option. “We wanted to find a way to use all the wonky cauliflowers that shops think they can’t or shouldn’t be selling and making them into a snack we’re proud of,” said Tracey Hogarth, founder of Nudie Snacks.

“We are the first to market this product – it’s the perfect snack and doesn’t compromise on taste or quality.

“With the health risks associated with diabetes, obesity and coronavirus, it has never been a more important time to keep your immune system and gut health in good condition. Eating pulses is better for you, keeps you fuller for longer and prevents you reaching for high-fat, high-sugar snacks.”

A 22gm bag of Cauliflower Crisps has 118 calories and is perfect for adults and children, in packed lunch boxes, to nibble on during the day or in the evening.

Suitable for those following vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free diets, the crisps are part of a new range by Nudie Snacks that includes Lentil Curls flavoured with Chilli and lime, Quinoa Chips with Sundried Tomato and Garlic, Lightly Salted Roasted Corn, Lightly Salted Hummus Chips and Popcorn.

Naturally Fast Food chain LEON is launching the Better Burgers Campaign, rallying the hospitality industry to improve the nutrition and sourcing of fast food.

The campaign brings to life LEON’s mission to serve naturally fast food that not only tastes good but does good too, with a menu featuring local and responsibly sourced seasonal ingredients. The announcement comes at a time when consumers are challenging restaurants to behave with more transparency and clarity on the nutritional value of their menus.

The Better Burgers Campaign kicks off with the launch of LEON’s new Burger Meal Deal (any burger)1, regular Baked Fries and a no-added-sugar natural fruit juice sparkling can; £8.95) and the new Crispy Chicken Korean Burger. This good-for-your-gut burger is made with raw, fermented kimchi, LEON’s best-selling GFC higher-welfare British chicken nuggets and a zingy Korean mayo.

Each of LEON’s Burgers is truly ‘better’: from the delicious Chargrilled Chicken Burger made with 100% British chicken thigh, which has double the protein of a McDonald’s McChicken Sandwich and more protein than any of KFC’s Chicken Burgers, to the Fish Finger Burger made with MSC fish from sustainable shoals which beats McDonald’s equivalent, Filet-o-Fish.

LEON believes in the power of plants and has increased the number of plant-based dishes on its menu, with a focus always on flavour helping guests to both eat well and look after the planet. In fact, sales of plant-based burgers now equal the number of meat-based burgers2 which couldn’t make the team at LEON happier.

Continuing to innovate in plant-based dishes, LEON is also launching a new Vegan Tagine with Jackfruit & Chickpeas (£4.95) and Sweetcorn Ribs with Parmesan & Truffle (£3.45), welcoming the return of the Brazilian Black Beans (£3.95), and larger Vegan Cheezy Loaded Fries, now topped with hot jalapeños (£3.95).

Continuing its commitment to seasonality, the Grilled Aubergine and Paprika Chicken Plant Boxes have been updated to feature the best of British autumnal roasted veg.

Erica Molyneaux, Head of Food at LEON, said: “It is our mission to continue to give our guests food that tastes good, does good and is kind to the planet. It is time for other restaurant brands to join us in the Better Burgers Campaign and rally for the improvement of food sourcing and nutrition within the fast food industry.

“We’re excited to be launching a new responsibly-sourced burger and a range of vegan sides which continues to show our ongoing commitment to providing innovative, affordable and good-for-your-gut fast food.”

The new menu is available across all LEON restaurants from Thursday 8th October 2020.

T’S FRIED SCOOP // NEW BUSINESS

Thank you to Goho Ltd for the following content

London’s Newest Dessert Trend Has Arrived in Shoreditch

● T’s Fried Scoop, fried ice cream desserts, arrived in Brick Lane, East London on 25th July
● The dessert craze is unlike anything tasted before in the UK
● T’s Fried Scoop is fried ice cream, inspired by a blend of Mexican and Japanese desserts

On Saturday 25th July, the UK’s newest dessert craze arrived to the Truman Brewery Upmarket, Shoreditch. (91 Brick Lane, E1 6QL)
The dessert trend is fried ice cream but it’s unlike anything England has ever seen before. The ice cream is inspired by a blend of Mexican and Japanese desserts. The ‘fried scoop’ is a combination of hot and cold desserts in one. The deep fried ice cream has an outer cookie-dough shell that is rolled in breadcrumbs that form a crispy layer but can also be covered in either cornflakes or Oreos. The founder describes it as “a hot, fried crust, coated in breadcrumbs, cornflakes or Oreos, wrapped around a decadent ice cream”.

The fried ice cream enthusiast and founder, Natasha, commented, “When I first tried fried ice cream, I was amazed! It was unlike anything I’d had before. I became so obsessed that I began practising and practising, using lots of methods from various cultures. This is why T’s Fried Scoop is so unique, because we’re a blend of so many different methods!”
The dessert maker is committed to making sure their desserts are inclusive, which is why T’s Fried Scoop has plenty of options, with their Matcha Ice cream being Vegan, and some toppings being Gluten free, there is something for everyone. The desserts are entirely vegetarian and
kosher, and Natasha is busy working on an entirely Vegan and Gluten free menu.

T’s Fried Scoop T’s Fried Scoop are located in the Truman Brewery Upmarket every Saturday from 11am-6pm and every Sunday from 10am-6pm. The fried ice cream is inspired by similar South Indian, Mexican and Japanese desserts but this is a totally unique recipe, and experience.

WILEY’S FINEST CATCH FREE OMEGA // NEW PRODUCT

Thank you to JellyRock PR & Marketing for the following.

Wiley’s Finest launches CatchFree Omega – the “vegan fish oil” you can cook with

CatchFree.jpg

A major step forward in health CatchFree Omega – Full spectrum Omega-3 Liquid is the first health supplement in the world that not only offers vegans and vegetarians their daily dose of Omega-3s and vitamin D from plant-based sources, but can also be used as an ingredient to create delicious meals such as desserts, smoothies and salads.

Omega-3s are crucial for the brain, heart, eye, and reproductive health. They optimise our brain function; improving focus, IQ and memory. They also have anti-inflammatory effects and have been shown to reduce the chance of dementia. Yet studies show most of the UK population, and especially vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians are commonly deficient in Omega-3s.

CatchFree Omega – Full spectrum Omega-3 Liquid and soft gel capsules are made from a blend of branded British-grown Ahiflower seed oil, Algarithm DHA derived from marine algae and the addition of MenaQ7 and Vitashine vitamin D3.

Naturally wild and now agriculturally grown, British Ahiflower contains a full spectrum of healthy fats such as ALA Omega-3, SDA Omega-3, and GLA Omega-6 fatty acids. Each bloom of the Ahiflower produces up to four seeds which are then pressed to produce an Omega-rich healthy oil with a higher quality and quantity of Omegas than any other seed oil ever produced.

DHA table-page-001.jpg

The light Tropical Mango flavouring of CatchFree Omega – Full spectrum Omega-3 Liquid makes it truly unique in that consumers can conveniently cook with it.

Vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians are commonly deficient in the essential nutrient, omega-3. DHA omega-3 is crucial for brain, heart, eye, and reproductive health. Doctors recommend consuming 250-500 mg per day. Even vegetarians who eat eggs and dairy foods, their intake is, on average, only 20 mg DHA per day compared to the suggested. A large population study in vegetarians reported that more than half of the subjects consumed no DHA at all.

Wiley’s Finest has continued to expand beyond wild Alaskan fish oils by launching other plant-based products such as Bold Heart, a useful and natural way to manage cholesterol in a convenient, mixable sachet serving for heart health on-the-go.

Sam Wiley, Wiley’s Finest CEO says: “”From day one, Wiley’s Finest was always designed to offer more than ‘just’ exceptional quality fish oil. We are passionate about the essential fatty acid category, and about our mission to serve the health and nutrition needs of all consumers. We recognise there are millions around the world who choose not to eat animal products, and our commitment to serve the health of everyone on the planet has just taken a major step forward.”

CatchFree Omega – Full spectrum Omega-3 Liquid and Capsules are certified non-GMO by NSF and Vegan by the Vegetarian Society.

It is available at the recommended retail price of £29.99 for either 60 softgel capsules (2 month supply) or 125ml of delicious mango-flavoured liquid. It is available online and from independent health food shops and pharmacists across the UK.

About Wiley’s Finest™
Wiley’s Finest™ point of difference is clear. A new generation of fish oil users has emerged – people who see fish oil not just as a generic ‘Omega-3’ supplement, but as seafood. People who demand a product to not only feature a high-concentration of EPA & DHA or science-driven formulas, but are traceable and sustainable. The company has taken off like a rocket, becoming the natural health food channel’s fastest growing fish oil brand and a preferred choice by many of the nation’s leading independent health food stores.

Although the Wiley’s Finest™ brand is relatively new, its family’s roots go deep in manufacturing and distillation of high purity ingredients. Brothers Sam and Daniel are third generation in the business; working with their father David and uncle Paul every day. They are proud that the family has been manufacturing since 1981 — that’s over 35 years of excellence in fine distillation.

What are Omega-3s?

Gretchen Vannice has a Master’s in Nutrition Science and is a registered dietitian nutritionist, specializing in omega-3 research. She is also author of Making Sense of Omega-3s: The Good Fats. She specialises in omega-3 research and natural health. She says:

“Both omega-3s and omega-6s are required fats in human health. They’re called essential fats because we need them but our bodies can’t make them; instead, we must consume them through diet and supplements. Most of us get plenty of omega-6s but fall short of enough omega-3s.

“Omega-3s are among the most researched nutrients. Different forms and sources of omega-3s exist (see Table) and they work differently in the body. For example, ALA and SDA omega-3s found in plant oils work differently from EPA and DHA omega-3s found in algae (vegan) and fish oils. What’s more, while all omega-3s have health benefits, research shows that some give more targeted benefits in our bodies.

“The omega-3s EPA and DHA support life-sustaining functions, such as breathing, heart rate, and muscle and nerve contractions.  Everyone needs EPA and DHA for a healthy body, and higher levels of omega-3 (measured as the Omega-3 Index) support optimum health. An Omega-3 Index of 8% or higher improves the health of your brain, heart, eyes, joints; it increases longevity and supports overall health and wellness.

“ALA and SDA are also healthy fats; they are great sources of energy and support general metabolic wellness. Supplementing with SDA and vegan DHA omega-3s effectively increases the Omega-3 Index.1,[1] Both ALA and SDA can convert to EPA in our bodies; the added benefit of SDA is that the body turns SDA into EPA far more efficiently than ALA does from flax seeds.[2],[3],[4],[5] Research shows that consuming vegan DHA increases DHA levels, while consuming ALA will not.[6],[7],13

“All of us, from vegan to omnivore, need DHA omega-3 for optimal health as it is crucial for brain, heart, eye, and reproductive health. The majority of us don’t meet our omega-3 needs unless we eat fish or take fish oil. This is especially true for vegans, vegetarians, lacto-ova vegetarians, and flexitarians. Many vegans and vegetarians consume little or no DHA omega-3. Even among vegetarians who eat eggs and dairy foods, their intake is, on average, only 20 mg DHA per day[8] compared to the suggested 250-500 mg per day. Indeed, a large population study in vegetarians reported that more than half of the subjects consumed no DHA at all.[9] Vegan athletes tend to be very low in omega-3s. Given the documented need for DHA and the lack of DHA in plant-focused diets, consuming DHA directly is highly recommended.”

Vannice also states that vegans and vegetarians alsohave significantly lower intake of vitamin D. The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) recommends at least 10 mcg vitamin D per day, but a UK population study reported the average intake of vitamin D among vegetarians was 1.5 mcg per day, and even lower in vegans, who consume less than 1 mcg of vitamin D per day while.[10],[11] Vitamin D is needed to support strong and reliant bones, a healthy immune system, and muscle metabolism; and because it is a fat-soluble vitamin, it is best taken with fat. Supplementing with at least 25 mcg per day is recommended to increase vitamin D levels.12,13

PURE OATY // NEW PRODUCT

Thank you to Rawlingson Lane for the following content

Family owned, Family run, British manufacturer –
Gluten Free oat milk for ethical consumers

With many consumers now actively investigating not only how products are made, but increasingly, who owns the brand themselves, the focus on family owned, family run companies has never been greater. Glebe Farm Foods has been in the Rayner family for over 50 years, and is currently run by sister and brother Rebecca and Phil. This year, heavy investment by the
family itself has seen the creation of a purpose-built gluten free oat milk plant, located on the same farm at which the oats themselves are grown. This plant has been the catalyst for the launch of PureOaty, the only oat drink on the market that is produced using exclusively British gluten free oats.

Lovingly created in the UK using just 4 natural ingredients: British
gluten free oats, water, sunflower oil and salt, PureOaty contains no
added sugars, sweeteners or preservatives and never, ever comes from
concentrate (unlike many similar products).

Low in sugar and calories, PureOaty is an excellent milk alternative in
delicious barista style coffees, whilst being perfect on cereals, or in
smoothies. In addition, it excels as the base for many sauces, soups and
desserts or as a key ingredient in baking, from gluten free brownies to delicious cakes and bakes.

When steamed through a domestic coffee machine, PureOaty creates a luxurious, velvety barista style foam which is ideal for a morning cappuccino, mid-afternoon latte or an indulgent hot chocolate.

Following the huge demand for plant-based milks in 2020, PureOaty provides a fantastic gluten and dairy-free option for those who are integrating free-from products into their daily lifestyle in 2020.

Suitable for both vegetarians and vegans alike, PureOaty also offers an excellent plant-based option for consumers with a number of dietary requirements including lactose intolerance, coeliac disease and nut allergies.

The Rayner family is delighted with the initial launch of this gluten free oat milk option and are already receiving a great response from consumers following a dairy free diet, as well as those who are choosing it as a lifestyle option.

PureOaty is currently stocked in Holland & Barrett, Central England Co-Op’s and Amazon an retails for around £1.99.

Thank you to Taste PR for the following content & for gifting us with a bottle of Baileys Almande. A series of Baileys Almande cocktail recipes will shortly follow on our blog – keep your eyes peeled.

Dine alfresco with Baileys Almande and tips from Rosie Birkett

Fresh air, a gentle breeze, and sunshine on the skin. Everything about summer makes us want to be outside. To make the most of the warmer weather, the Baileys Almande team has teamed up with Rosie Birkett, food writer and lover of all things alfresco, for her expert advice on how to celebrate the season of sun by eating, drinking, and dining in the open air.  From how to style your space, to what food and drink to serve, Rosie’s got all the advice needed to turn even the smallest of spaces into a seasonal retreat – including food pairings with three delicious new cocktails featuring Baileys Almande – a dairy-free liqueur that blends beautifully with the finer flavours of summer. The collection is made up of favourite timeless drinks, that are indulgently light-tasting, dairy-free and don’t compromise on taste. So whether you want to host an intimate get-together with friends, throw your home open to all the neighbours or make your nearest and dearest feel like they’re in an at home oasis, here are Rosie’s top tips for bringing those outdoor moments to life this summer:

1.Make the most of what you have
Whether it’s a doorstep, balcony, garden, or tiny terrace, almost any outdoor space can be transformed with a little bit of love. The first step is to choose your space so you know what you’re working with, then you can start to add to it. If you have a space that’s a little wilder or more overgrown, play to that. I love to use the wildness of my garden as a backdrop and work with the naturally beautiful shapes of the leaves, trees, moss and herbs growing.

2. Prepare in advance
Make the most of your alfresco moment with friends by getting as much prepared in advance as you can, so that you can relax and enjoy the day. I like to choose dishes that I can make in advance – an orzo salad can be made in the morning and will sit happily in the fridge until needed. There are loads of cocktails that can be whipped up and prebatched in advance too. Put a new spin on traditional cocktails by making them dairy-free – try a Baileys Pina Almanda. All the ingredients can be blended together and then chilled, ready to be poured over ice after dinner, as a fun, light twist – just as tasty as the classic colada.

3. Have fun with flavours
When it comes to what you serve, have a think about how your drinks and food can work together. Cocktails are surprisingly versatile thanks to the vast range of flavours they can cover. For instance, a vibrant and zesty Baileys Almande Passion Fruit Chilli martini cocktail works amazingly with a fruit dessert. One of my favourites at the moment is peaches with this twist on a martini cocktail, an absolute classic. As peaches and cherries are bang in season, I’ve roasted them together to bring out their flavour and sugars, and topped with a cardamom spiced crumble with toasted almonds and pecans, spooned over gorgeous clouds of sharp, creamy coconut yoghurt. This works really well with the deliciously light taste of Baileys Almande.

4. Set the scene
Once you’ve chosen your space, a few little touches can really bring it to life – add cushions, chairs, a table, candles, and plants to transform the area. If your alfresco gathering is going to stretch into the evening, think about lighting for once the sun sets to add atmosphere and ambience. I love to mix and match by repurposing old jam jars for tea lights, using lanterns and thick church candles and playing with festoon lights, stringing them up on a wall or fence.

5. Set the table
You can build a lovely collection of tableware without spending a fortune. Keep an eye out in second hand shops and in the homeware sections of bigger stores for nice pieces of glassware, plates and platters. You can mix up second hand pieces with a few newer, smarter bits. It doesn’t all need to be matching – I have a really eclectic mix, and a little goes a long way. Reusing milk bottles for cocktail vessels can bring a retro feel to the table too.

6. Finish in style
Leave your guests with a lasting impression with the end of meal coffee by creating something visual – it’s easier than you’d think. Try a Baileys Almande Iced Coffee & Tahini Twist, where iced coffee is topped with creamy layers of Baileys Almande. As the liquid mixes it creates an insta-worthy swirl in the glass that guests will love. I like to add vegan chocolates to pair with this coffee cocktail. The chocolates are super simple to make, by adding melted cacao butter, cacao powder and maple syrup a filled with a ganache of almond butter, with a dash of Baileys Almande. The deep, dark, fruity notes of the chocolate works wonderfully with the sweet creaminess of the cocktail for an indulgently light tasting, dairy-free alfresco treat.
