Brunches are proving more popular than ever so I thought with this, I’d post something a little different as I went to one a little while back. So I visited Birmingham for the weekend and decided to go for a brunch at none other than Dirty Martini. Not strictly Essex, I know but there are branches in London which is not too far away from us, which all offer the same deal. The brunch itself was very reasonably priced at £30 per person for 90 minutes of unlimited drinks & a platter of food. There are two options for food, a meat option or a vegetarian option. The meat option consisting of; beef & cheese sliders, crispy tomato & basil arancini, paprika spiced crispy tortillas, skin on fries with rosemary salt, vegetable spring rolls, chicken hirata buns, chorizo & yellow pepper kebabs, & the veggie option consisting of; crispy tomato & basil arancini, korean vegetable samosas, paprika spiced tortillas, skin on fries with rosemary salt, vegetable spring rolls, Quorn & vegetable hirata buns, tomato & yellow pepper kebabs. Now I know that when you go for a brunch, you’re not necessarily focused on the food, you are there for the delicious cocktails but truth be told, the food was totally disappointing! We found that the hirata buns & the beef & cheese sliders totally lacked in flavour, & were served up really quite dry/stale. We did really enjoy the chorizo & yellow pepper kebabs, they were really tasty, & the arancini was lovely too but everything else was just sort of alright. The drinks were a completely different story – tasty & we couldn’t get enough of them! You can take advantage of unlimited Passion Fruit, Espresso, or French Martinis, Prosecco, Pravha (beer), Beefeater Blood Orange or Beefeater Pink Gin & Tonic (well worth the £30 just for the drinks – the reason I made the booking in the first place!) As I say, the brunch is worth booking purely for drinks alone as cocktails end up costing around a tenner anyway, so it’s a bit of a no brainer, however if you do book, don’t expect too much from the food!
